His crime thriller film On the Job: The Missing 8, a sequel to the 2013 Cannes Film Festival Directors' Fortnight selection On the Job, premiered at the 78th Venice International Film Festival, where it entered the Main Competition for the Golden Lion and won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor for John Arcilla. The film was later selected as the Philippine entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards. It was also adapted into a miniseries for HBO Asia called On the Job, with the re-edited version of the first film serving as the first two episodes, which was nominated at the 50th International Emmy Awards for Best TV Movie or Miniseries.
