Ido Weisman

Ido Weisman is a Tel Aviv-based director and cinematographer.

Born in 1989 and raised in the northern Israeli village of Nofit, he holds a BFA from the Steve Tisch School of Film and Television at Tel Aviv University.

He has directed several award-winning short films, including "Horah" (2018),

"Pool" (2019), and "Uzzi" (2018), which was shortlisted for the BAFTA Student Awards. His short documentary "Requiem for a Whale" (2022) won the prestigious IDA David L. Wolper Student Documentary Award and was nominated for Best Documentary Short at the 2023 Israeli Academy Awards.

The film also received the top prize at the Israeli Documentary Forum Awards and won both Second Prize and the Cinematography Award at the 2022 Docaviv Film Festival. In August 2023, The New Yorker acquired it for distribution. In May 2025, Weisman directed the television series "You Have to Read This", which premiered on Kan 11.

His debut feature-length documentary, "Sun Bay" (2025), won the First Feature Award at both the Docaviv Film Festival and the Israeli Documentary Forum Awards, the Grand Prize for Feature Documentary at the Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival, and the Best Director Award at the DOKer Moscow International Documentary Film Festival. The film was also one of the five final nominees at the 2026 Israeli Academy Awards (Ophir Awards).

The film premiered on Kan 11 in early 2026 and is available to watch on Kan BOX and the Kan 11 YouTube channel.

In May 2026, Weisman was selected by the Docaviv Film Festival as one of 20 promising filmmakers under 40 who are shaping the future of documentary filmmaking in Israel.
